New Delhi: A 46-inch waist, a double chin that threatened to multiply and a bulging belly.

Life for Amit Bansal was difficult. That was till the plastic surgeon came to his rescue and gave him a whole new look and confidence to match.

Amit, now fit as a fiddle, with a 36-inch waist, makes sure he maintains his daily exercise routine that involves an 8-km long jog and one meal a day.

Though he didn't inform his family, for Amit, the decision to undergo liposuction was an easy one.

Being part of the top management at an educational institute, he felt he needed a personality to match.

"Wherever I went, people used to taunt me on my young age and health. They used to say how will I survive my future and I used to feel bad. I used to be very careful in sitting on a plastic chair. What if fell down, it will be a big insult," he says.

Amit is just one of the increasing population of men who are opting for an image makeover through cosmetic surgery to feel good and do well in their careers.

Call it metrosexuality or simply cosmetic consciousness, men today consider self-enhancement a legitimate pursuit and are ready to go to any lengths to grab eyeballs.

Till last year, men accounted for nine per cent of cosmetic surgery patients. This share comprised of men mainly from the middle and upper strata including aspiring models, actors and men who just wanted to make their careers swing to their demands.
