Beijing - A Chinese dating agency has staged a matchmaking meeting for celibate people.

It provided an opportunity for 65 men and 45 women, aged 20 to 78, to meet up and try to find a platonic partner.

All of them were interested only in sexless relationships, reports the Wenhui Daily newspaper.

Cupid matchmaking agency manager Luo Jun said about half of the candidates found partners.

One would-be suitor, Mr Guo, a successful businessman, met a teacher at the meeting.

He said: "This is my first time dating. To be honest, I have never been so close to women, for physical reasons.

"I lost the courage to live, but today, I am quite happy, since I see hope." - Ananova.com
