Frederick Prehn is not afraid to admit his wardrobe could use a little sprucing up.

"My wardrobe has been around for 10-15 years, and I though it's time to come down and see what's happening," says Prehn, a local dentist.

So on this trip to St. Clair's Menswear, he's looking for a couple of good quality pieces to add to his wardrobe, and just like the women of the baby boomer generation, St. Clair's owner David Jahnke says the men are also looking for classic pieces that can stand the test of time.

"We like to have things that maybe can be used for years to come," Jahnke says.

So what are the basics every man should have in his wardrobe? A black suit, a good sport coat, a variety of shirts and ties that you can mix and match, and a good pair of chinos.

Jahnke says clothes in blacks, navys, and tans are great for any man and can go with anything. But to jazz it up a bit, he says all you need is a little color."

"A lot of brighter colors, not only in neckwear, but in shirtings," he says. "Pinks, lavenders, and bright blues. They've been around for awhile, but it's all about color right now."

Those factors are all fine and great for guys like Prehn, but he not only wants to look good. He also wants to be comfortable.

"Function and looks are important, but I gotta feel good. I'm not a thin guy, so I like to have clothes that are somewhat loose fitting," Prehn says.

And like lots of St. Clair's customers, Prehn says he wants to get the most out of his clothing. He's not afraid to spend a little extra on quality.

"I like to be modern, but I'm not trendy. When I buy something, I want it to go for 5-10 years," he adds.

And with that quality, Prehn hopes he'll stay classy in his baby boomer years.
