Fashion diploma students, textile students and evening students collaborated with other college departments to put together the 2004 show at the town's Winding Wheel.

The range of designs was immense, with the group collections made up of a variety of themes including: Swimwear, Oriental Influences, Asian Fashion, Castaway Couture and garments for the fuller figure.

And individual students' final collections boasted some challenging titles such as: Miss Leading, Zoot, Rotten Roses and Bitter Sweet.

Most people don't normally associate Chesterfield with fashion - but try telling that to the town's students and you'd be shouted down.

Many of them are competing for opportunities in the fashion industry or places to continue their studies into higher education.

One such student is 19-year-old Laura Gregory whose collection "The Dark Sounds" has kept her particularly busy.

Laura said: "The timescale has been really hard as we've had to work to very strict deadlines and the frills have been intricate and difficult.

"For my collection, one of the main problems was getting funding - but I managed to get sponsorship, which helped a lot."

Laura's described her designs as a "juxtaposition of flamenco and fetishism".

She said: "I went to a Christian Dior show where they did flamenco and I knew then that I wanted to include it."

Of the show, she added: "I'm ecstatic! I was dead scared about it at first, but once I saw it all on the catwalk I was jumping about with excitement!"

Laura is soon off to Bournemouth University to continue her fashion studies.

She's particularly interested in costumes - and says she'd love to work on big, bold, brassy, glitzy, glamourous films such as Moulin Rouge.

Start watching the end credits - you might just see her name there soon!
